Our

Pillars

Our Purpose. Our Promise.

Our Purpose is to create and sustain the modern environment by building trusted relationships with our customers. Our Promise is to work closely with our customers to help them succeed, using leading insights and solutions.

Safety

Zero Harm is embedded in Hawkins culture; it serves to protect people, the environment, relationships, and sustain growth.

Delivery

We build trust by delivering on our promises with excellence while focusing on safety, value for money and efficiency.

Relationships

Through collaboration, we build and sustain enduring relationships based on trust and integrity.

Thought Leadership

Hawkins and Downer remains at the forefront of industry by employing the best people and having the courage to do things differently.

Early Collaboration

Hawkins is well versed in leading early collaborative working arrangements on our projects. Working in partnership with clients, designers, stakeholders, subcontractors, and suppliers is our preferred mode of operation. Our ability to get involved early on an ‘Early Contractor Engagement (ECE)’ Pre-construction basis will ensure your project is delivered on time and within budget. Due to our experienced in-house resources and industry knowledge, we can determine cost certainty early in the development process.

Whole of Life Offering

Through leveraging our capability within the Downer business we can build, maintain, and support the projects we are involved in through our whole of life offering.  We aim to be the leading facilities provider, partner, and employer of choice, delivering sustainable outcomes today and for future generations.

Design and Build

Our strong relationships with consultants all over New Zealand mean we can form and manage a team of architects and engineers to best suit the project. We have established relationships at the highest levels of our supply chain and draw upon a diverse pool of expert subcontractors and specialists. This approach, like ECI, allows us to save time and money by having the construction and design coordinated and managed efficiently from the outset.

Digital Construction

Hawkins has industry-leading capability in using Digital Construction/BIM (Building Information Management) tools and processes, including 3D coordination, clash & deficiency detection, visualisation, 4D planning, 5D quantification, and augmented/mixed reality devices. The use of these tools has added significant value on several projects over recent years, including airports, hospitals, education facilities, and commercial building projects – allowing us to identify risks early and mitigate them well before we get onto site.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Hawkins is committed to working collaboratively to support broader social, economic, environmental, and cultural outcomes through our projects. We believe in helping the disadvantaged into work, training, and careers, building intergenerational prosperity, and helping alleviate the inequity that exists today.

Our focus is helping Māori and Pasifika and we work closely with our partners from grassroots to government, iwi, and hapu to ensure better outcomes for these communities.

Environment + Sustainability

As one of the founding members of the New Zealand Green Building Council, we believe true sustainability requires leadership and action. We empower our teams and supply chain to deliver viable environmental outcomes for our clients and end-users. We have invested in understanding better design methods and construction materials to reduce environmental impacts and as a company, we strive to exceed industry environmental best practices, always doing what’s best for the communities in which we live and work.

Downer and Hawkins have been shaping Aotearoa for over a century. It’s this heritage that identifies our 12,000 employees as kaitiaki (stewards) of the communities and ecosystems around us. Hawkins, through Downer, joined the Climate Leaders Coalition in 2018 and aims to promote business leadership and collective action on the issue of climate change.

As a business, we also set an emission reduction target in 2019, “Downer commits to the decarbonisation of its absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 45-50 percent by 2035 from an FY18 base year and being net zero in the second half of this century”.

Technical leadership and support

We optimize all project phases to deliver the best value – from preconstruction and early contractor involvement (ECI) to delivery and commissioning. We use collaborative tools and digital technologies for seamless communication and cost-efficient proceses for our clients, and we seek to develop solutions that add value to the whole-of-life cycle of your asset, not just during the build phase.
