Highly trained staff is a key priority and that’s why we are investing over $1 million in staff training and development in 2016. Three programmes have recently launched:
- Hawkins Graduate and Cadet Programme. This innovative 2-year Cadet programme is designed to help cadets become familiar with site operations, estimating and tendering, planning and programming, and commercial management. Participants will gain a holistic understanding of the entire construction process, learning to work and communicate effectively within multi-disciplinary project teams.
- Hawkins Project Excellence (HPE) teaches participants a more collaborative approach to project management and how to achieve continuous improvement via lean construction, BIM, and risk management.
- Hawkins Leadership Programmes are designed to give our existing leaders a broader, more strategic view of the business and for them to better understand how they contribute to the overall success of the organisation. Participants will learn about topics such as effective workplace communication, building a customer centric organisation, and running a project-led business.
"I haven't received formal training like this before," says Matt Wilton, Wellington Regional Manager. "It's certainly quite visionary for Hawkins to develop its senior people in this way, I don't think other organisations in our sector invest in their leaders to this extent."
To support the growth and development of all our people we have also established our Hawkins Development Programme and an online Hawkins Business School.
Through all of our training initiatives we are fostering a culture of collaboration, communication, and innovation to empower our total team to take on the future with confidence. Many people who start out at Hawkins as apprentices, cadets or University graduates, have gone on to become project managers, quantity surveyors, engineers, architects and business leaders.
